Abstract |
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different prebiotic levels of fungus (Pleurotus ostreatus) on hematological indices of common carp exposed to cadmium. For this purpose, 120 juveniles of common carp in 4 treatments: treatment (1) control, no prebiotic mushroom, treatment (2) food containing 0.05, treatment (3) food containing 0.1 and treatment (4) Food containing 0.2% prebiotic mushrooms were divided for 42 days. Then, 0.5 ppm concentration of cadmium was added to each group for 16 days and fish blood plasma indices were evaluated at different levels. Prebiotics alone had no significant effect on RBC, MCV, hematocrit, hemoglobin (P <0.05) but exposed treatments. Cadmium and prebiotic in combination showed an increase in WBC, MCHC, MCH indices compared to prebiotic treatments alone and the control group. Oral prebiotics stimulate nonspecific immunity in common carp and the combined use of cadmium and fungal prebiotics also reduces the destructive effects of the toxin on blood indices. It is concluded that a combination of 0.1 and 0.2% levels of mushroom prebiotics and 0.5 ppm cadmium toxin in the diet can improve the blood factor status of common carp. |
