Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute, Education and Extension Organization, Shiraz, Iran [email protected] Purpose: Antibiotic are used to treat fish diseases caused by bacterial infections. Streptococcosis caused by Streptococcus iniae is one of the most important disease in cultured fish, therefore use of various antibiotics to treat such infection in cultured fish is inevitable. on the other side antibiotic resistant among bacteria responsible for fish diseases causing problem for treatment and maybe hazard for public health, therefore this study was undertaken to see antibiotic resistant if any among Streptococcus iniae isolated from cultured diseased fish at various parts of Iran such as (Khuzestan, Bushehr, Mazandaran, Kohgiluyeh and boyer-ahmad province). Method: The isolates were cultured in BHI broth and subsequently were cultured on Mueller Hinton agar plated con fluently and standard commercial antibiotic discs were applied on cultured plate. Then plates were incubated at 25 °C for 24 hours and zone of growth inhibition around each antibiotic discs were measured. Results: Results indicate that Streptococcus iniae isolated from Bushehr, Mazandaran and Kohgiluyeh and boyer-ahmad were resistant to fifteen antibiotics (those are Amoxicillin, Ampicillin, Cefotaxime, Ciprofloxacin, Chloramphenicol, Doxycycline, Erythromycin, Gentamicin, Kanamycin, Nalidixic acid, Neomycin, Norfloxacin, Penicillin, Streptomycin and Trimethoprim sulfamethoxazole) being tested in this study. While three isolates from Khuzestan were resistance to Cefotaxime, Ciprofloxacin, Chloramphenicol, Doxycycline, Erythromycin, Gentamicin, Kanamycin, Nalidixic acid, Neomycin, Norfloxacin, Streptomycin and Trimethoprim sulfamethoxazole while they were sensitive to Amoxicillin, Ampicillin and Penicillin. Conclusions: Antibiotics resistance are noticed among Streptococcus iniae isolates, therefore it’s worth to be aware when decided to use antibiotic treatment of fish disease caused by this bacterium. |
